February 14, 2007 14:35 - For Hands-on style makes Valentine's Day a breeze
If you're not the type head for shop when Feb 14 rolls around, here is how you can show your affection with easy, inexpensive Valentine's Day crafts in one free hour:
- Turn a cloth-covered book picked up at a flea market into a sentimental frame for a favourite photo (scanned or photocopied and printed onto photo paper). Cut a window into the book cover and insert the picture.
- Turn a tin or cardboard heart-shaped candy box into a clock to remind your sweetheart of you with every tick tock. Get a clock kit at any hobby store and follow the instructions provided. Don't forget to add a fresh battery.
- If you have a stash of pretty bottles in your recycling bin, get the children to decorate these with bits of ribbon and leftover wrapping paper. Add water and a single flower to each bottle and place two or three on the dining table.
- For gift giving, recycle small paper shopping bags by covering the store logo with photocopies of dictionary definitions of romantic words, such as love, sweetheart and sexy. Cut to fit over the logo and glue on. Add pretty buttons or faux jewelry to the handle as a decoration (learn more from my holiday ideas' checklist page).
Here are two other option for those who have more time (2 to 3 hours to spare) and who have not time at all. Read more...

February 15, 2007 23:48 - A Special Christmas Gift For Travelers
How many special Christmas gifts you've been given in your life?
I travel a lot...quite a lot.
And do you know what gift I love the most in the last Christmas?
When I found there is something called the "1,000 Places to See Before You Die Calendar", I know this is something for me.
Here it is...
Charlie Adams, who is a travel section columnist, also shares his experiences on Readingeagle.com
Here is a short excerpt from his article:
"It's a useful, informative and colorful little addition to my desk.
But I have some issues with it.
Each page has a color photo of and a paragraph about a destination the authors believe is among the most intriguing and important in the world. It's a great concept, and it was a great gift for this travel writer.
But my first issue about the "1,000 Places" calendar should be obvious.
There are how many days in 2007? Well, that would be 365. There are how many "Places to See Before You Die?" That would be 1,000.
Do the math. No way can one attraction per daily page well, I don't think I have to school you in basic division.
But OK, I figured it out on my own. The (365-page) calendar does not promise to provide 1,000 places to go. It was, of course, adapted from the best-selling book entitled "1,000 Places to See Before You Die."
February 17, 2007 09:54 - Which game dominates the top of most Christmas gift lists?
One gift that people of all ages are hotly anticipating this year is the new PLAYSTATION 3.
A launch lineup of more than 20 unique games means there's something fun for everyone. Top-rated titles include NBA 07, running in full high-definition with hyper-realistic characters and the incredibly detailed Resistance: Fall Of Man, set in a frightening 20th century alternate military reality complete with aliens.
Here it is...
Noted gaming industry author and consultant Scott Steinberg agrees that many choices await, but the fun is in the choosing. "No matter your age, interest, skill level or budget, a multitude of great gaming options await. Ranging from stand-alone set-top consoles including the new PLAY-STATION 3 to high-end laptops, slick cell phones and whiz-bang portables, the entire family need no longer do without."
I'm the one among those Fun On The Go.
And I can't agree more with the ideas of traveling, commuting or just generally being on the go should not have to mean forgoing fun and games.
Imagine when you're cruising cross-country at 30,000 feet or sitting by the cozy fireside in grandma's den, you can get a healthy dose of gaming goodness, don't you feel exciting?
Just like Steinberg sais, "No matter where you go, no matter what you do, now it's always possible to get in the game."
Even more...
With games, photos, movie viewing, Web surfing capabilities and more, the PlayStation Portable (PSP) fills the fun-on-the-go void. The PSP Entertainment Pack, which includes a 1-GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, the full-length movie "Lords of Dogtown" and the ATV Offroad Fury Pro game is available now.
Gifts Under $50
For the gamers who have all of their hardware needs taken care of, there are plenty of new games to keep them entertained.
The latest games for PSP include the colorful LocoRoco, superhero-filled Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, puzzler Mercury Meltdown and NBA 07 for sports enthusiasts. Gamers 17 and older will enjoy leading SEALs in SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2 or taking part in the action-packed Killzone: Liberation.
However you play the game of gift shopping, a little fun and games can go a long way. To learn more about video game entertainment this holiday season, visit www.us.playstation.com.
